Every Spring we partner with our community to collect food and fund donations for the Central Virginia Food Bank.   Our goal each year is to collect enough food and funds to provide 100,000 meals to needy children and their families in the Central Virginia area. The Central Virginia Food Bank distributes over 75,000 lbs. of food EVERY DAY and the need for food increases in the summer months as children are out of school.

The Central Virginia Food Bank can provide 5 nourishing meals for each dollar that you give. Funds can be donated through our secure online donation page. Non-perishable food donations can be dropped off at all of our locations and through our Home Delivery service.

Whether it’s a few dollars, a jar of peanut butter, or a can of tuna, every donation makes a difference in the lives of needy children right here in our community.   If you’ve never been, we highly recommend taking a tour of the Community Kitchen at the Central Virginia Food Bank to see for yourself the difference they make every day in our community and in Central Virginia.

Did someone spill big game snacks on your favorite game gear? Have no fear, even if your team didn’t win we can save the day, whether it’s mustard, alcohol or cheese – but we have to get it fast. Don’t let those tricky stains set into the fabric. The dye-based foods will absorb and distort the colors, and the sugar-based foods will begin to oxidize and leave a haloed dingy stain after time (even when you don’t see anything!) And as hard as it is to resist, don’t try to get the stain out yourself. Pressure from rubbing, abrasion from scratching, and chemical reactions between what you use to clean and the stain itself can all cause permanent irreversible damage.

Jeans that fit like a dream are hard to find. So when you shop, focus on the body fit, and don’t worry about the length. Our alterations department will have you hemmed to the perfect length in no time. If you want to retain the showroom look, ask for an original hem. Rather than cutting off the bottom and sewing a new hem, we can cleverly hide the extra fabric and move the original factory hem to a new shorter length.

Have you scheduled your wedding photo shoot yet? If so, be sure to arrange for your wedding dress to be cleaned and ready for the wedding day. We’re ready to help with cleaning, pressing and last minute alterations for everyone in the wedding party.

Want to preserve your dress for the next generation? Wedding planners suggest you arrange cleaning and preservation of your gown two weeks before the ceremony. Our professional staff will care for your gown and expertly package it for long-term storage.

Not sure if you are going to save your gown or sell it? Gowns that have been professionally cleaned and preserved bring a higher price than those left ‘as worn.’

That’s where the Cinderella Dreams Project comes in. The Midlothian Junior Women’s Club, Puritan Cleaners, YMCAs of Greater Richmond, and Cox Media Group are joining forces to ensure that no young woman is denied her chance to experience a quintessential event of adolescence – attending her Prom. The Cinderella Dreams Project aims to help shoulder the financial burden of attending this formal event by providing gowns and accessories for free to any girl who, like Cinderella, needs help obtaining a gown for the ball.

The Cinderella Dreams Prom Dress Project is held each spring. Prom dresses, jewelry, shoes, makeup and other prom-related accessories that are collected at Richmond-area YMCA branches and Puritan Cleaners in February. A ‘shopping’ event is then held in the Spring, where girls can shop for and select a dress and accessories for free. Since 2006, Cinderella Dreams Project has partnered with local businesses to help hundreds of girls fulfill their prom dreams at no cost to them!

The Cinderella Dreams Project is now accepting donations of new and gently used gowns in current styles for 2013.

Over time soil, sweat and abrasion causes the fabric to break down, making it more susceptible to discoloration and permanent staining. Cleaning your shirts or blouses as soon as possible is the best way to prevent soiled collars and cuffs from becoming permanently stained. Also, wearing a shirt multiple times between cleanings is never a good idea, even if it “looks” clean. Dried perspiration will go from invisible to visible and will attract additional dirt, making it harder to clean.

We take extra care in using the proper cleaning methods and pre-treatments to get these nasty rings out and keep your shirts and blouses looking their best. Remember, we’re dirt removal specialists– let us know if there’s a shirt that needs some extra help at the counter when you bring it in – we will mark it for extra TLC.

White wines may taste sweet, but they are sneaky when it comes to leaving stains – let us know at the counter what was spilled for the best chance of survival for your garment.
