Can I use Club Soda to Get out Stains?

Club soda has long been considered a universal stain remover. However, using club soda to treat a spill on your garment usually just spreads out the spill, making the stain larger. In fact, club soda can make removal of oily stains like butter and gravy almost impossible.

Also, rubbing a stain with club soda can break the fibers of the garment and cause color loss. Using club soda may appear to help, but most of the time, it simply makes the stain worse, or even permanent on your garment.

The best way to handle spills on your garment is to lightly blot (don’t rub or scrub) the spill with a clean cloth, then bring the garment to your dry cleaner as soon as possible to prevent the spill from setting in. Make sure to let us know what the spill is (wine, olive oil, tea, etc.) so our spotting specialists can properly remove it.
